Fraser Corfield

Fraser Corfield is the Artistic Director of Backbone Youth Arts. He has worked as a director, actor, writer, workshop facilitator and artistic director. Prior to 1997, much of his time was spent working in the community arts, facilitating drama and performance workshops. Fraser has worked for numerous community arts organisations, local Government, educational institutions and private industry. He developed his acting and directing skills in Brisbane’s independent theatre industry.

 

From 1997 to 2000, he worked in professional theatre the Artistic Associate of La Boite Theatre. He was responsible for coordinating development initiatives operating alongside the theatre’s main season, including the award-winning festival of new works Shock of the New and the Springboards season of rehearsed play readings. In 2001 he moved to South Australia to take up the position of Artistic Director of Riverland Youth Theatre. During his tenure, the Company received recognition through the 2001 AWGIE Award for the commissioned work I Said a Word by Stephen House; the 2002 SA Great Regional Arts Award for “offering young people a remarkable opportunity to pursue their artistic passions” and the interstate tour of Cindy With a Twist.

 

His writing credits include Here Come the Lobsters, Sneeze Please, Suckers, Cindy With a Twist and he co-wrote Mrs Grimm’s Mystery Tour.

 

Fraser is an Associate Artist of Queensland Theatre Company (2006/2007), is the Queensland representative for Young People in the Arts Australia and chair of the selection committee for the Youth Arts Mentoring Program (YAMP).
