Jared Matsunaga-Turnbull

Jared is an actor, writer, director and dramaturg based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. From 1994 to 2007, he was an Artistic Co-Director of Edmonton’s Concrete Theatre, an award-winning professional theatre company dedicated to the development and production of issue-based, culturally diverse Theatre for Young Audiences. Concrete productions tour to schools and stages around Edmonton, throughout the province of Alberta, and across Canada. With Concrete, he has been heavily involved with Are We There Yet?, a participatory play for 14-year olds on healthy sexuality and relationships.

Recently, Jared left Concrete Theatre to take a job with the Alberta Workers’ Health Centre, a small not-for-profit organization. As the Theatre Outreach Programmer, he develops and produces plays for Junior and Senior High School students across the province, with a focus on empowering young workers in the workplace. Jared’s TYA plays for children include the award-winning Lig & Bittle (co-written with Elyne Quan) which has been produced across the country, and Penelope vs. The Aliens! (co-written with Chris Bullough), which will tour across Western Canada with Calgary’s Quest Theatre in the Spring of 2008.

Jared
has worked as a popular theatre facilitator with diverse and marginalized populations, especially youth and Aboriginal communities.

Jared has his BFA in Acting from the University of Albeta and lives in Edmonton with his excellent wife Isabelle, and super-awesome young kids Claire and Felix.
