Mark Teh

Mark Teh is a director, performer, researcher and educator whose projects are particularly concerned with the issues of Malaysian history, youth, sport and empowerment. 
 
Since 2002, Mark has been involved in collaborative projects with designers, filmmakers and visual artists - staging performances and exhibitions, as well as organising the Taman Medan Community Arts Project. In 2005, he was a co-curator of Asian Youth Artsmall, a ten-day workshop exchange that brought together youth and community artist-activists from the region. 
 
More recently, he has directed several documentary theatre performances focusing on marginalized Malaysian histories, such as Baling (membaling) and Dua, Tiga Dalang Berlari, which were toured to universities and public spaces.
 
Mark was a recipient of an Arts Network Asia grant to research engaged arts practice in India and the Philippines in 2003. The same year, he was the recipient of the inaugural Boh Cameronian Arts Award for Most Promising Artist. He was also Artist-in-Resident at Sunway University College’s Department of Performance + Media in 2007.
 
Mark teaches at The One Academy of Communication Design and the Department of Performance + Media, Sunway University College. He is a member of Five Arts Centre.
 
He was a member of the Akshen youth theatre collective, writing and performing in all of the group’s productions Kecoh, Lebih Kecoh and Stadium (Contacting The World Festival 2002, Manchester, UK) from 1999 to 2002.
