Set entirely in a pit of dirt, three actors revive the epic tale of Gilgamesh – an all-powerful, tyrannical ruler who is plunged into crisis when he is forced to face his own immortality.
This high energy and brutal adaptation combines hip hop, toys, Matchbox cars and professional wrestling to deal with themes of masculinity, power, love and loss. Part nostalgia, part tongue in cheek irreverence, Uncle Semolina conjures stories from the objects of your past.
Originally developed and presented by Uncle Semolina (& friends) in a 40-foot dirt-filled shipping container, this re-telling of an ancient Iraqi tale has been presented at the Melbourne
International Arts Festival, The Barbican, the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre, and the Sydney Opera House.
This show has strong language and sexual references
