Headhunter

by Polyglot Puppet Theatre and Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Cooperative Victoria, Australia

"I really enjoyed your play because it had humour and a bit of sadness too. I also loved the puppets, especially the crow and the car. You guys are fantastic actors and Katrina is a great puppeteer. Your play was very touching. Now I know how indigenous people really are!"

Milica, Gilies Street Primary School

Are we there yet? Two cousins, Rick and Gina, leave town in a hurry after their Nan’s funeral. Driving her old red EH Holden, they find themselves on the road to a special place, with a comprehensive puppet world stashed under the dash, a talking statue in the boot, a weighty secret in Gina’s bag... and the police hot on their trail.

Headhunter is a contemporary Indigenous story which is accessible to all and told with puppetry, music and a gorgeous car. Fast, funny and visually arresting, it takes audiences full speed into another reality.

Headhunter is an artistic collaboration between Polygot Puppet Theatre and Ilbijerri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Cooperative. Inspired by the contributions of the kids at the Victorian College of Koorie Education in Glenroy and a short story by Archie Weller, it is a compelling theatrical journey, using puppetry and music to tell an entertaining and contemporary tale. Enjoy the ride!
