Workshops for Children

Presented by Adelaide Festival Centre and CentrED in association with ASSITEJ 2008.

Age: 5-12
Year Level: 1-7

Note: Anangu Backyard is also offered to ASSITEJ Delegates

Throughout the vast red sandy lands and cultured landscape of South Australia’s ‘backyard’, the Anangu people use image, song and narrative to tell their children stories about creation, family and food supplies. In an intimate and personal environment, participating children will sit alongside Indigenous artists as they draw and re-tell their stories.

This workshop is accompanied by the exhibition Anangu Backyard featuring paintings for, and by, Anangu children. With vibrant colour, rhythmic patterns and symbols, children and can learn about Anangu culture, just as the Anangu children do.

Artworks from 6 Anangu art centres are for sale. This exhibition supports Aboriginal community artists to live and work in their own country in far northwest South Australia.

These workshops are specifically timed to coincide with Headhunter, The Voyage, Vula, and Mr McGee and the Biting Flea.

Each workshop lasts approximately 30-45min (depending on time) and to between 25-30 participants.
